'Heels Kitchen; Wicks wins Dance

Anne WicksNorth Carolina throttled homestanding Michigan State to win the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship Monday night. Detroit, MI has seen its share of carnage. Add this massacre to the list.

Roy "I Don't Give A S#$% About North Carolina" Williams won his second title and Anne Wicks (New York, NY) won her first. Wicks rode her predicted National Championship of UNC over Michigan State to the money, finishing with with 1290 points.

Chris Peterson (Denver, CO) took second, while Josh Buckmeier (Rochester, MN) took third. The rest of you, including the Big Ten, lost.

Spartans and 'Heels

Anne WicksAll eyes will be on Detroit on Monday night, as Carolina and Michigan State do the dance. Anne Wicks (New York, NY) will be watching. If the favored 'Heels come through, she'll take the cake.

Also, please note that Bruce Kolpack (Seattle, WA) is in LAST place. Technically, he isn't in last place, because there is a fake person in last place. But of all of the real people that actually tried, he's the worst one.

If you had UConn, 'Nova, Michigan State, and North Carolina in your Final Four . . . then you aren't in this pool. Nobody pegged all four. But Rob Beer (Fargo, ND), the sole believer in Villanova, got three of the four and now sits atop the Big Dance.

Upsets few and far between

The top 12 seeds, and 14 of the top 16, remain. Fourth-seeded Wake Forest laid the biggest tournament egg, getting drubbed by Cleveland State in round one. Otherwise, this bracket is a snooze.

The lowest remaining seed of the 16 teams remaining is #12 Arizona, which benefitted from Wake Forest's flop by beating Cleveland State in the 2nd round. After that, #5 Purdue is the biggest Cindarella left dancing. Every other team left is a top four seed.

What does all this mean? It means that the most boring souls find themselves atop the Big Dance leaderboard. You know who you are.

Chris PetersonMore specifically, Chris Peterson (pictured left) sits atop the field with 560 points. DeLaSalle devotee Darcy Cascaes is just 10 points back, while the trio of Buckmeier, Deutsch, and Waite hold down the third slot after the first weekend.
